War Excerpt: Before we can determine what kinds of wars these women faced, let us take a look at the time period. Guinevere was a princess of the 1700s. Women at the time were not regarded as people, but as objects, possessions, tools. They lived under male rule, and the Wizarding World was no different. The main goal of a woman during this time period was to marry well to get or maintain social standing, and to be provided for, or to make a political alliance. It was a time where the aristocracy ruled.
Now that we have established the time period, we can now dissect and analyze. Guinevere was a princess, therefore she was always out in public. She had an image to maintain, and she had to protect her family's image and reputation. If she left, it would reflect badly on her father, the King. So, one war that she was fighting was a war of keeping her and her family's reputation intact and a war against the public mass. She was also fighting against her father and for her well-being. Marge, on the other hand was a Pureblood woman in a situation that was common to the women of her class. She was fighting for peace of mind, and love.
Who won? Let us take a look. Guinevere was in a dire situation. Her husband beat her mercilessly, caused her to miscarry her children, spent her money and was unfaithful. She was unhappy and even in her unhappiness she had to put up a front to the public who would sever her family's reputation. She was a princess and she had a duty to her family and people. That is what her mother meant by 'holding her head up high.' Even though she tried, her situation did not improve and it looks like it got worse, for even her mother told her to give up. Fleeing from her suffering she was caught and suffered even more at the hands of a criminal. She was killed, and is now free of her suffering. She no longer has to worry about becoming a fugitive, or being recognized. Nothing is no longer demanded and expected of her. She will never have to suffer again.
Marge on the other hand had everything she could possibly want materialistically. She performed her duties well and was well rewarded. She was not murdered and never suffered. She lived in luxury. For a while, she had happiness. However the thing she wanted most, she did not get: the love of her husband.
Who won their war? That, my dear readers, is up to you.
